Roy Stephen Nicholson was a Director of Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. from 2004 to October 2008 and was a Member of the Audit, Compensation and Nominating Committees.

He was President of Daily College-Chicago from 1971 to 1973, Southern Nevada Community College, Las Vegas, from 1973 to 1976 and Mount Hood Community College-Oregon from 1976 to 1985.
From 1985 to 1990, he was President of Oakland Community College-Michigan.
Dr. Nicholson was Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 1990 to 1992 and Christian College-Coalition from 1992 to 1994.
From 1994 to 1999, he was a Senior Fellow for Higher Education-Murdock Charitable Trust Vancouver, Washington.
Dr. Nicholson has served on various boards, including Michigan Manpower Development Authority, the American Association of Community Colleges and the World Affairs Council-Japan/America Society.
Dr. Nicholson served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946.
He received an AB in History and Philosophy from Wesleyan University in 1950, an MA degree in Cultural Anthropology from Syracuse University in 1956 and a PhD in the Sociology of Large Scale Organizations/Japanese and Chinese Cultures from Michigan State University in 1971.
