Soon Hock Ong is the founder of Malaysian Oil Scientists & Technologists Association (founded in 1987) and Malaysian Invention & Design Society (founded in 1986).
He is currently a Director at Sunrise Education Foundation and Edge Education Foundation.
He is also an Emeritus Professor at Universiti Sains Malaysia since 1970 and the President of Malaysian Federation of La Sallian Associations since 2008.
