Bowen, Jr. in 1972 as Bowen Management Co., Inc. They were acquired by a New York insurance holding company in 1975 and merged with a subsidiary founded by Sir John Templeton into a single investment counsel entity. In 1978, a reconstituted Bowen Management Co. spun-off as a division and relocated to Atlanta. In 1980 the firm was repurchased by Mr. Bowen. In 1981, the name was changed to Bowen, Hanes & Co., Inc.
