Covestro AG ist einer der weltweit größten Hersteller von Polymerwerkstoffen. Die Produkte sind hauptsächlich für die Sektoren Automobilindustrie, Bauwesen, Elektronik, Möbel- und Textilindustrie bestimmt. Der Umsatz verteilt sich wie folgt auf die verschiedenen Produktfamilien:
- Spezialprodukte (50,5%): Rohstoffe für Beschichtungen, Klebefolien und Folien;
- Leistungsmaterialien (47,8%): Polyurethane (flexibler Polyurethanschaumstoff, der hauptsächlich für Möbelpolsterung, Matratzen und Polsterung von Autositzen verwendet wird sowie Polyurethanhartschaumstoff, der zur Herstellung von Isoliermaterialien für Gebäude und Kühlgeräte zum Einsatz kommt) und Polycarbonate (Hochleistungs-Polycarbonate für Automobile, Dachstrukturen und medizinische Geräte);
- sonstige (16,3%).
Ende 2023 der Konzern verfügt weltweit über fast 48 Produktionsstandorte.
Die geographische Umsatzverteilung sieht wie folgt aus: Deutschland (12,1%), USA (21,8%), China (21,4%) und sonstige (44,7%).
