He was appointed an Industrial Engineer-Fort Dodge of Hormel Foods in 1976 and Superintendent-Grocery Products Division in 1979 and was Night Foreman-Grocery Products Production.
In 1983, Mr. Potter was appointed Manager of Hormel Foods Operations, Plant Manager at the Stockton, California plant in 1987, Plant Manager at the Beloit in 1992 and Director of Grocery Products Production in 1994.
He is President of the Shelf-Stable Food Processor's Association, Chairman of Fort Dodge Foods and a Director of Valley Fresh, Inc. Mr. Potter was Vice President of Operations for Grocery Products of Hormel Foods Corp.

He received a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Northern Iowa.
