Harvest Energy Trust is to acquire and produce crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids. The company operates under two businesses: Downstream operations and Upstream operations. The Downstream operations runs the refining and marketing business that operates a medium gravity sour crude hydro cracking refinery and a retail and wholesale petroleum marketing business. The Upstream operations runs the petroleum and natural gas business that is focused on the operations and further development of assets in western Canada. It acquires and holds net profit interests in oil and natural gas properties in Alberta and West Castle.
