The GSMA (GSM Association) has nominated EPCOS, a TDK group company, and leading antenna manufacturer Pulse Electronics for a Global Mobile Award 2012 in the category of Best Technology Breakthrough. This category was judged by the chief technology officers of 16 mobile operators, among others. Altogether, some 600 entries were submitted for this year's Global Mobile Awards.
EPCOS and Pulse co-designed indie, the operator-independent
RF hardware platform that for the first time will enable
global roaming and downlink inter-band carrier aggregation
for LTE mobile devices. indie is the only high-end platform
that can be used to serve the majority of operators with
the same hardware configuration without modifications.
This technology breakthrough successfully answers the Next
Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) operator alliance
challenge to develop a single RF platform supporting all
NGMN operator frequency bands and downlink inter-band
carrier aggregation. Network operators stand to profit from
easier access to multiple markets, compatibility with
multiple OEM designs, and the platform's support for
network operators worldwide. Users will also benefit from
smartphones that offer excellent radio performance
everywhere.
The winners of the Global Mobile Awards will be announced
at GSMA's Mobile World Conference on February 28, 2012, in
Barcelona, Spain. Stay tuned.
