Hony Capital is an active manager which invests in unlisted Chinese and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) across a variety of sectors including pharmaceuticals, construction, consumer products, media and alternative energy. The firm aims to identify and invest USD 20-100 million in undervalued SOEs which have sustainable competitive advantages. It also makes opportunistic investments in private companies and distressed assets, seeking to invest in companies with a strong management team, attractive industry dynamics, predictable cash flow, growth potential and potential for value creation. Hony Capital prefers to act as a lead investor but also co-invests. The firm always takes a board seat on their investee company board of directors, partnering with management to add value through restructuring, recapitalization, operational optimization and business expansion. It aims to make significant impact in the companies in which they invest and tend to hold their investments until value is fully realized.
