Tom Steenkamp

Mr. Tom Steenkamp has been Chief Investment Officer Allocation & Research at APG Asset Management since 1 May 2005.
Previously, Tom Steenkamp had held the post of Head of Research, while also acting as Deputy Chief Investment Officer (CIO).
Before this he had already been working for six years as a university professor in the Department of Finance and Financial Sector Management at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) of Amsterdam.
In 1999 Tom Steenkamp was appointed Professor of Investment Sciences at this university, a post he has held to this day.
Tom Steenkamp studied economics at the University of Amsterdam, with macroeconomics as his major and a dual minor in econometrics and financing.
In 1998 he obtained his doctorate at the VU with a dissertation titled “Het pensioenfonds in een corporate finance perspectief” [The pension fund from a corporate finance perspective].
Tom Steenkamp presented his inaugural lecture (“Even Apeldoorn bellen” [Just call Apeldoorn]) at the same university in 2004.
A number of his scientific articles have been published in such prestigious trade journals as the “VBA Journaal” and “Tijdschrift voor Pensioenvraagstukken” [Magazine for pension-related issues].
In addition to his professorship at VU, Tom Steenkamp is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the university’s postgraduate financial and investment analysts training institute.
He is also a member of the editorial board of “The Journal of Asset Management” and a member of the board of Inquire, an organization that was created to offer a forum for investment professionals with a quantitative orientation.
