Lewis & Clark Trust, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the full story of the Lewis and Clark expedition and the entire Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. Nearly all contributions are directed toward preservation and educational programs, with a mission focused on “ preservation through education. ” The private company is based in Lexington, KY. The trust works in cooperation with the National Park Service, tribal nations, local communities, and volunteers to protect historic sites and promote education and research related to the expedition. It manages projects that combine historical preservation with modern technology and public engagement, including a trail mapping partnership using 360° imagery, a digital archive of primary sources, and initiatives documenting the expedition’s eastern origins. Educational outreach includes youth programs, virtual tours, hands-on kits, contests, and teacher workshops. The trust is developing an education and interpretive center and has installed a statue honoring an important African American explorer.
